Medical assistants are healthcare professionals who perform clerical and clinical tasks alongside physicians and various medical specialists. If you’re interested in an exciting new career, then consider some of the most common facilities employing medical assistants:
-
Physicians’ Offices: According to a 2007 report from the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, doctors’ offices employ over 269,000 medical assistants; while the numbers may have changed slightly over the years, physicians’ offices still tend to employ the greatest number of medical assistants nationally.
-
Specialty Practices: Many medical assistants also perform clerical and clinical work in various specialty practices, including cardiology, dermatology, gastroenterology, pediatrics, otolaryngology, and pulmonology offices.
-
Hospitals Hospitals: all over the country employ thousands of medical assistants to help maintain patient records, perform administrative tasks, and attend to clients.

Diagnostic Imaging Facilities: Medical assistants are typically front-lined at diagnostic imaging centers, preparing and performing patient testing on behalf of physicians and medical specialists. As a diagnostic imaging technician, these medical assistants are responsible for performing x-rays, ultrasounds, MRIs, CT scans, mammograms, EKGs, and various other tests.
-
Medical Insurance Offices: Insurance offices often employ medical assistants to help authorize medical pre-certifications and handle patient case management services.
